This is the story of how Cynthia went from Homelessness to a college degree.
At 59 years old, Cynthia is proof that it is never too late to rewrite your story.
A mother and grandmother, Cynthia’s life was marked by years of childhood trauma, abuse, addiction, and homelessness. There were moments when rebuilding her life felt impossible. The weight of her past left her struggling with self-worth, disconnected from her family, and uncertain about her future.
Yet even in her darkest moments, Cynthia never lost her faith or her passion for art. Through creative expression, she found a way to process her experiences and envision a life beyond survival.
When Cynthia came to Hope’s Crossing in 2018, she was searching for support in her recovery journey, a way to rebuild her confidence, and an opportunity to reconnect with the people she loved most. In 2019, she enrolled in the Fundamentals of Freedom Life Skills Program and committed herself to the difficult work of healing and personal growth.
As her confidence grew, so did her vision for the future. While many focused on finding immediate employment, Cynthia set her sights on a dream she once thought was out of reach—earning a college degree.
In May 2022, Cynthia proudly graduated from Phoenix College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Art.
Today, she continues moving forward, pursuing employment opportunities and building the future she once believed was impossible.
Cynthia’s story is a reminder that transformation happens when women are given the tools, support, and encouragement to believe in themselves again.
